Some dreams don’t arrive on time. They arrive exactly when you’re ready for them.
I carried a love for dance since childhood but circumstances never quite allowed it. So in 2013, I did what many parents do: I enrolled my 8-year-old daughter in Kathak classes, quietly living my dream through hers.
Then one day, watching women my age dance with such freedom and joy, something shifted. If they can do it, why can’t I?
That was the moment everything changed.
Under the beautiful guidance of Guru Smt. Archana Patniji, I didn’t just learn Kathak I found myself. Juggling a corporate career and family responsibilities, Kathak became my solace, my stillness, my joy. It taught me to stay centred when everything else was spinning. Gradually, almost without realising it, I left my corporate life behind and stepped fully into this art form.
I completed my Masters in Kathak from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya and Nritya Alankar from Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Mahavidyala, both with First Division. I have performed at stages including the Godrej Theatre at NCPA and continue to collaborate with Sanskriti Dance Academy.
Today, through Hrishika Kathak Academy in Andheri West, Mumbai, I teach the dance that transformed my life to children, adults, and everyone who has ever wondered if it’s too late to start.
Trust me, it isn’t.
